Retailer expecting a ‘super-upgrade autumn’ as millions of out of contract iPhone 4 customers look for a new smartphone
Carphone Warehouse is forecasting a flurry of handset upgrades this autumn as major handset announcements loom.
The retailer said it is predicting a bumper few weeks with huge numbers of customers upgrading to new devices in the ‘biggest period ever for smartphones’.
One high-profile smartphone rumoured to launch in the coming weeks is the next incarnation of the Apple iPhone, which is expected to be unveiled on September 12.
Carphone Warehouse chief commercial officer Graham Stapleton said: “This is a very exciting time for the mobile phone industry and looks set to define the smartphone market for years to come.
“The buzz and anticipation surrounding handset developments at the moment is incredible. We are seeing lots of speculation on possible design, features and operating systems of new devices and huge anticipation amongst our customers.
“One thing is certain though; there has never been a better time to be a smartphone customer – with the widest range ever there is something for people of all budgets, and handsets have more features than ever before. Competition between the manufacturers is hotting up and there are now millions of iPhone 4 customers in the UK who are estimated to be out of contract and waiting for the next big thing.
“With several big name launches on the horizon, and the Samsung Galaxy SIII still performing extremely well, it’s far from a one horse race. With so much choice in the market it’s easy to get confused; Carphone Warehouse is the only retailer in the UK to offer independent, impartial advice on a wide variety of smartphones across all of the major networks.”
