‘Watch with Twitter’ will allow viewers to see which TV programmes are trending on the social media website
EE has become the first TV platform to partner with Twitter in the UK as it looks to boost the appeal of its television service.
‘Watch with Twitter’ is one of three new features announced today and will allow users to see which TV programmes are trending on the social media website through the on-screen guide.
Users can also see the official hashtag of the show they are watching to make it easier to join the conversation about it on Twitter, with more features expected in the new year.
Twitter UK managing director Dara Nasr said: “Great telly and Twitter have always gone hand-in-hand – people love talking about their favourite shows and our new partnership with EE makes it easier than ever to discover which programmes are creating the biggest conversations.”
More TV features
EE also announced EE TV Replay, which allows consumers to view any show from the last 24 hours from up to eight of their favourite channels, as well as the addition of 41 channels to the programme guide.
Finally. the mobile operator has also partnered with NBCUniversal International to introduce ‘hayu’, an on demand app that shows the premieres of reality TV shows such as ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ the same day the show hits the US, into the EE TV service.
It also allows users to catch up on the series all the way from the beginning and those who subscribe to the service for £3.99 per month will have access to the hayu app and online service too.
Evolving the experience
EE managing director of marketing Noel Hamill said: “We continue to evolve the EE TV experience for new and existing customers – ensuring it’s even easier for them to discover shows they’ll love.
“We’re also excited to be the first TV platform in the UK to partner with Twitter on integrating its ‘Watch with Twitter’ features, meaning customers are in the loop on all the most talked about programmes.
“With the addition of hayu, we’re making sure there’s plenty for those who want to keep up with the latest hit reality shows.”
