The smartphone is the most technologically advanced model yet
Emporia Telecom, which focuses on the senior market, has launched its new Emporia S4 handset from £170.
The Austrian-based vendor says the smartphone, which supports the Android 10 OS, is its most advanced yet.
For the first time, it also features NFC technology, allowing users to set up contactless payments via Google Pay.
The phone is available from Emporia’s UK distributor Eurostar Global, directly from the company’s website, and from retailers Maplin and AO Mobile.
Emporia UK MD Chris Millington commented: “This phone really responds to some of the challenges and hurdles faced by our retiree audience in everyday mobile communication.”
Other features include a pre- installed QR scanner and the App installer, which suggests the top 20 relevant apps.
The S4 has a five-inch screen and comes equipped with a 13MP main camera, plus an 8MP selfie camera.
Guide books
The device is accompanied by a 135-page training book for users and a 16-page guide on contactless payment.
Millington said it was the right time for Emporia to launch NFC technology, given the increased reliance on contactless payments during the global coronavirus pandemic.
He explains that no transactions can be processed without a password, while all transactions trigger a notification sent to the customer – helping allay some concerns people may have about using the services.
“As debit and credit card contactless payment limits were increased to £45 earlier this year
to accommodate and encourage contactless payments by customers, many older users read the headlines with some concern about fraud.
“However, we want to challenge this misconception; NFC and Google Pay in a mobile address this concern for seniors head-on.”
