‘The 4G Mobile Revolution: Creation, Innovation and Transformation at EE’  by Swantee and former EE communications director Stu Jackson charts the joint venture between Orange and T-Mobile, and the birth of EE

Former EE CEO Olaf Swantee has teamed with ex-communications director Stu Jackson to pen a book charting the creation of the operator.

‘The 4G Mobile Revolution: Creation, Innovation and Transformation at EE’  looks at the 2010 joint venture between Orange and T-Mobile that created the UK’s biggest mobile operator.
The pair completed the book following the completion of EE’s £12.5 billion acquisition by BT in January, when Swantee stepped down from the role he’d held since September 2011.
The book takes a look at how EE was formed, when T-Mobile parent Deutsche Telekom and Orange agreed a deal to strike a 50:50 joint venture, which was called Everything Everwhere.
It also looks at how Everything Everywhere evolved as a brand in to EE, and how it became the first UK operator to launch 4G in October 2012 – nine months before rivals O2 and Vodafone.
Swantee said: “The EE story is unique. We took two great companies and transformed them to become the market leader, building a new mobile digital infrastructure for Britain in the process.
“It was a huge task delivered by many exceptionally talented people and I wanted to make sure that we captured the good, the bad and the ugly of the journey – what worked as well as what didn’t. We learned a lot of lessons along the way and wanted to share our learnings with other business leaders who may be facing similar challenges in their organisations.”
The book is being published by business book publisher Kogan Page and is due to launch this summer.
Jackson said: “Over the past decade, technology has become one of the most disruptive forces in the world today and is often right at the heart of business transformation. That’s why we wrote this book now.
“It captures a very special moment in time. From the creation of the joint venture, to the regulatory challenge of pioneering 4G, right up to the creation of an exciting new technology brand for Britain
