Huawei took the wraps off the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro at the Olympiapark in Munich, claiming the series to be the first true artificially intelligent (AI) smartphone line.
The Mate 10 will cost €699 (£621) in black, pink gold, champagne gold and mocha brown. The Mate 10 Pro features in: titanium grey, midnight blue, mocha brown and pink gold for €799 (£710). UK prices to be confirmed.
European rollout will commence late October and mid-November, for both devices respectively.
The new range of devices will be available in more than two dozen countries, including: the UK, Thailand, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, Germany, Ireland and France.
The Mate 10 series has “breakthrough” AI technology that is the focal point in the majority of the smartphones’ features.
Huawei claims the smartphones can learn users to optimise use, resulting in no device slowdown after 18 months of use. The Mate 9 had a similar feature but was more machine learning than artificial intelligence.
Both are powered by the Kirin 970 processor with 4GB of RAM and 6GB for the Pro. The chipset was unveiled last month and houses the AI. Internal storage for the Mate 10 stands at 64GB, double (128GB) for the Pro.
Display sizes are 5.9-inches and 6-inches, the smaller Mate 10 has a 1440 x 2560 pixels, 16:9 aspect ratio screen. Meanwhile the larger Pro has 1080 x 2160 pixels, and a wider 18:9 aspect ratio.
The Huawei Mate 10 and the Huawei Mate 10 Pro features a 4,000 mAh high-density battery with a smart battery management system that understands user behaviour and intelligently allocates resources to maximise battery life.
Huawei claim the battery can last two days with light use, one day on heavy usage.
On stage Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu took aim at Apple and Samsung for slow facial recognition technology, while introducing the front and rear mounted fingerprint sensors on both devices, claiming it takes 0.33 seconds to access the Mate devices
Other features include: Android 7.0 Oreo, USB-Type C port and IP67 water-resistance (Mate 10 Pro).
A Porsche-designed Huawei Mate 10 Pro will be launched alongside the standard Pro for €1395 (£1239) in diamond black. Internal memory is 256GB with 6GB of RAM.
Camera
A dual-camera system co-engineered with German lens manufacturer Leica features. The camera has a 12 megapixel RGBM colour lens, paired with a 20 megapixel monochrome lens (for details pictures).
Huawei claimed with the use of AI the auto snaps will be of professional quality, with less fuss. The eight megapixel front-facing camera also incorporates AI, the vendor claims this is a world’s first.
Other camera features include: f/1.6 aperture lens, phase detection, laser autofocus and dual-LED flash.
