Millar’s role unaffected at Tech Data Mobile despite US move

Tech Data Mobile president Rod Millar will continue president role from US office.

Rod Millar will continue to manage Tech Data Mobile’s UK and European business arms despite relocating to the US.

Sources at the firm told Mobile News that Millar, who retained his position following Tech Data’s £106m joint venture buyout of Brightstar Europe last year, remains “integral” to the firms UK and European growth plans.

Millar, who is responsible for assembling teams and driving sales in the firms 16 UK and European markets, relocated to Tampa, Florida back in April.

His presence at the business has however been limited in recent months following the premature birth of his twin daughters.

He is now said to be back at work, and is understood to be attending meetings in the UK this week.

“Rod’s role at the firm requires him to travel to all corners of the earth on a regular basis, and doesn’t require him to be in the UK 24/7,” one source said.

“He will continue his role as normal from our US office, but when he needs to be in the UK, he will be. He remains fully committed to Tech Data Mobile.”

Suggestions of unrest amongst staff at the firm following a number of recent high profile departures – including UK and Ireland sales director Steve Fraser, UK and Ireland VP Jim Michel, have also been vehemently denied.

Our source said the appointment of Stephen Nolan, who replaced Michel in April , and the internal promotion of Dylan Price, who replaced Fraser last month (May) – has had a “positive” affect on the business.

“The new management team have hit the ground running and we are in great shape. They are all determined to help continue our recent run of success in the market.

“The Phones 4U contract, which is now live, shows the strength and capabilities we have as a business, and we are all moving in the same direction.”
