Olympic edition Galaxy Z Flip 6 phones gifted to around 17,000 Paris Olympic athletes have started appearing on eBay with asking prices up to $10,000.
Samsung produced the Olympic edition for Paris24 athletes only. The phones have a gold finish with Olympic rings and come in a special leather case. They are not available to the general public.
Samsung’s sponsorship of the Olympics allowed medal winners to carry the phone to the podium. This produce placement is understood to be the first allowed in the modern Olympic Games. The athletes have been taking thousands of selfies and videos and uploading them to their TikTok and other social media accounts.
The average asking price on eBay for the special Flip 6 is around £1,600 However one seller is asking $10,000. on a BuyItNow basis and had 1,344 views at time of writing. Another seller was offering the device for $6,999 to anyone clicking the BuyItNow button.
The Olytico Social Media Monitoring and Analysis company estimates hundreds of athletes are sharing the product in their social feeds – with over 20 million views on Tik Tok. Olytico founder Stephen O’Leary said on his LinedIn feed that most watched Samsung video was from boxer Tina Rahimi with 5.8 Million views.
