Flagship range, which also includes the S7 edge, was launched at Mobile World Congress last month

Samsung claims it has seen record pre-orders for its new Galaxy S7 range as the flagship device went on sale in the UK today (March 11).

The S7, and its larger sister handset the S7 edge, were both launched at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 21. The two handsets are the latest in the Korean manufacturer’s popular Galaxy Range.

Both devices went on pre-order immediately after launch, with Samsung claiming UK sales were more than 2.5 times greater than those of previous devices in the range.

The S7 comes with 5.1 inch super-AMOLED screen. It is powered by an octa-core (2.3GHz Quad + 1.6GHz Quad), 64 bit processor with 4G of RAM and a 3,000mAh battery. The battery also includes both fast-charging and wireless charging technology.

The S7 edge comes with the same curved screen as the S6 edge, but Samsung has introduced new software to improve usage capabilities on the edges. They now allow multiple quick options as opposed to just a few, while the technology has also been opened up to software developers.

According to the Korean manufacturer, the Edge made up 61 per cent of all European pre-orders.

Samsung UK and Ireland mobile head Conor Pierce explained: “The pre-order performance of the new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge illustrates strong customer appetite for our premium smartphones in the UK.

“Customers opening their new Galaxy phone want new innovations and experiences, powered by their smartphone. We are confident that our new flagship devices fulfil this need better than anything else available on the market.

“By creating a world of connected products and services through the Gear VR, Gear 360 and Samsung Pay, we are providing a highly-differentiated and richer experience for our consumers, a central part of our strategy.”
