Samsung, Xiaomi, Microsoft and Vodafone were all winners at the GSMA’s 2016 Global Mobile Awards.

The awards, now in its 21st year, recognise the services of various industry manufacturers and operators. There were over 100 judges who determined who won, including CCS Insight chief of research Ben Wood and Ovum practice leader Steven Hartley.

Samsung took home two awards. Best Smartphone of 2015 was given to the Galaxy S6 edge. Judges praised it for its processor, camera, build quality and strong sales. The Gear S2 smartwatch took home the award for Best Consumer Electronic Device. The judges called it “an innovative leap in mobile connectivity within a fast growing market segment.”

Best Mobile Tablet went to the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, whilst the Xiaomi Redmi 2 won Best Low Cost Smartphone. Vodafone’s M-Pesa mobile payment app was also named Best Mobile Payment Solution. Judges described the app as ‘an excellent example of the role digital innovation can play in financial inclusion and enablement.”

The winners ceremony took place at Mobile World Congress on February 23 in Hall 4 Conference Village.
