Carphone Warehouse has confirmed 200 jobs could go at its head office in North Acton ahead of strategic restructure

Carphone Warehouse has put more than 200 job roles at risk, as part of an internal strategic restructure.

Jobs will be cut across various positions at Carphone’s head office in North Acton, West London in the coming months.

Cuts will not be made to store numbers and retail staff as reported in some publications last week.

Sources close to the mobile retailer claim Carphone Warehouse is making the changes to “inject new life” in to its business.

Carphone claims the restructure is not related to any loss of business.

A number of key management staff are said to have gathered at a meeting in the Far East recently to discuss the plans.

A number of key personnel at Carphone Warehouse have already exited the business over the past months, including  UK retail director Anthony Hemmerdinger and UK MD Matt Stringer, who is believed to have left last week.

A Carphone Warehouse spokesperson said: “We’ve seen many changes to our business over the last 12 months including the closure of our UK Best Buy stores and operations. Our focus is now on getting back to our mobile heritage in order that we can capitalise on the smartphone revolution and concentrate on what we do best.

“For these reasons we have decided to re-organise our business and create self sufficient and autonomous markets, including a fully independent UK and Ireland business.

“Unfortunately this will result in number of roles at our North Acton, Head Office and other Support Centre functions being put at risk. We are working hard to redeploy as many of those affected roles as possible. Our stores and retail employees will not be affected.”
