The fine relates to Xiaomi allegedly falling foul of warranty and repair rules in Italy

Xiaomi has been fined €3.2 million by Italy’s competition authority AGCM for alleged warranty and repair violations.

Claims against Xiaomi include that the vendor has refused to carry out repairs it was obliged to perform in the presence of scratches and other minor defects not covered by the warranty.

This made “the warranty service subject to the repair of out-of-warranty damage”, noted AGCM.

According to the authority, among other issues, Xiaomi also allegedly carried out repeated repairs rather than replacing faulty products.

In a statement, Xiaomi said it had taken note of the AGCM’s decision and is evaluating the reasons behind it.

“We believe that our aftersales services, including the warranty service, are fully compliant with Italian law,” said a Xiaomi spokesperson.

We are committed to providing highly satisfactory aftersales service to our customers around the world.”
