Profits expected to hit £3 million, helped by the demise of Phones 4u, successful iPhone launches and internal system improvements

A1 Comms says it is on track to achieve consecutive record profits of £3 million by the end of its current financial year (ending March 31), thanks in part to the collapse of former rival Phones 4u.

The Derbyshire-based company which had record profits of £2.2 million in its last annual financial report, operates a number of businesses catering for both the consumer and B2B markets, and is on track to repeat the feat.

A1 managing director and founder Paul Sisson (pictured) told Mobile News the rise is down to increased traffic to its websites, buymobiles.net, affordablemobiles.co.uk, mobileshop.com and phones.co.uk. This, he says, has been aided by the collapse of Phones 4u and its e-commerce business Dial-a-Phone last September.

Record year
Sisson added A1 Comms enjoyed more successful launches of the Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus a year ago, as well as the recently released iPhone 6s and 6s Plus as a result, with tweaks made internally to make the business more efficient.

“It’s been an excellent financial year so far and we are definitely on course to achieve another record year, with profits tracking at £3 million,” he said.

“Demand in the summer has been better than last year. Big players in Phones 4u and Dial-a-Phone departed, and that still hasn’t gone unnoticed. As a result, we have enjoyed successful iPhone launches as well.

“There are also small internal things. Over the past 12 months we’ve worked hard and invested in ensuring our software and security systems work better, all of which will affect your bottom line.”
