Marc Allera will step down as CEO of BT’s Consumer division on March 31 and will be succeeded by Bell VP Claire Gillies, the company has announced.

Allera leaves after nine years with the company. From April 1, Gillies will assume the role of CEO and join BT’s Executive Committee.

He said:

Over the past nine years, we’ve transformed every aspect of our operations to deliver exceptional service to our 25 million customers across the UK. We’ve built a fantastic platform for growth, and I wish Claire every success as she takes the helm. While I’m excited for what lies ahead, I leave BT and EE with fond memories and gratitude to the incredible team I’ve had the privilege to work with.”

Gillies began her career at Bell Canada in 2000 as a co-op student and progressed through various senior roles, including Senior Vice President of Retail at Bell Mobility, Vice President of Marketing Campaigns and Pricing for Mobility, and President of The Source.

Most recently, she served as Executive Vice President of Marketing and President of Consumer at BCE Inc., Bell Canada’s parent company, where she led all consumer marketing and marcom activities for the Bell, Virgin Plus, and Lucky Mobile brands.

Allison Kirkby, BT Group’s CEO, added:

Marc has been an outstanding leader of BT’s Consumer unit, contributing significantly to the company’s growth. His achievements include integrating EE into BT Group, creating the BT Sport joint venture with Warner Bros. Discovery, and launching New EE as our lead consumer brand. I am deeply grateful for his support during my tenure and for the guidance he will provide to Claire during the transition. We wish him every success as he embarks on his next chapter. Claire will be a brilliant addition to our team as we continue to grow BT’s Consumer division and solidify EE as the UK’s leading consumer brand for converged connectivity.”

Gillies said:

I am beyond excited to take this role at such an important British company. BT and EE are two of the UK’s most iconic brands, leading the industry and connecting people to what truly matters. I look forward to joining Allison and the broader BT team as we strive to become the UK’s most trusted connector of people, devices, and machines.”
