Daisy not bidding for Avenir Telecom’s airtime business

The distributor said it wants to speak to dealers affected by the sale to “reassure” them of its dedication to the airtime market

Daisy Distribution has confirmed it is not looking to buy Avenir Telecom’s airtime base.

As reported by Mobile News this month (see here) Avenir’s base of around 30,000 mobile customers is up for sale, with founder Jean-Daniel Beurnier confirming talks are ongoing with several potential buyers.

Industry experts pointed towards Daisy Distribution and Carphone Warehouse as likely purchasers. Both declined to comment at the time.

Daisy’s managing director Dave McGinn has now denied it has plans to acquire the business but it is “keen to speak to Avenir partners affected by Beurnier’s announcement”.

McGinn said: “ While we are definitely not looking to acquire Avenir Telecom, I can confirm that airtime is a major focus for Daisy Distribution, and our philosophy is all about how we encourage our partners to succeed in that with us, supporting their activities across all the networks.

“We are sympathetic towards any partners who may feel they have been put in a precarious situation given the short timescales involved in Avenir’s exit from the airtime market. I am willing to personally speak to anyone affected by this news and can offer reassurances over Daisy Distribution’s continued dedication to the airtime market, its expansion into other mobile and fixed technologies and the support it can provide to affected Avenir partners.”
