Customers across the country unable to call landlines due to BT network issue

Update: O2 said the earlier issues preventing calls to landlines have now all been resolved. An O2 spokesperson said: “BT has confirmed that the problem is now fixed and those customers who may have been impacted, are able to make calls successfully. We will continue to monitor service overnight to ensure stability for our customers. We apologise for an inconvenience this may have caused.”

O2 and EE have both been hit by a network outage that has left some users unable to make calls to landlines.

A source at the operator told Mobile News said there was a “major national issue” with O2’s network, leaving many users unable to make calls, while EE used its Twitter account to warn customers they could experience issues.
According to O2’s website, London, Birmingham and Liverpool are amongst the locations currently experiencing problems.

An O2 spokesperson said the outage was down to an issue at network level, with its fixed line partner BT already investigating.

They said: “We are aware of an issue where some O2 customers may be experiencing difficulties making calls from their mobile to EE mobiles and to landline numbers.

MVNOs including GiffGaff and Tesco Mobile, both of which run on O2’s network, have also been experiencing problems making calls since the late afternoon (January 11).

An EE spokesperson confirmed some customers had been experiencing issues, adding: “We’re aware that some customers, and customers on other mobile networks, are having trouble connecting to landlines and some of our MVNO partners. All affected operators are working to get full service restored as soon as possible.”

Twitter

Customers took to Twitter to complain about the ongoing issues with O2’s network. User Chris Morton complained: “ issues? Unable to make any calls from my phone at the moment. Looks widespread. Can any Twitter friends confirm?”

Another customer, calling herself Michelle Hall, tweeted: “@O2 I’m still unable to make any calls (land and mobile) but can receive calls. Is this being investigated? I’m in South Wales area.”

On the social networking website, O2’s account said: “@loupop81 This is something we’ve seen a few people mention today, we’re looking into it as we speak.”
