Operator claims roaming deal, which allows Three customers to use minutes, text and data, saves customers £360 a year on average

Three claims its Feel At Home roaming offer has saved its customers £2.6 billion since it was first launched in 2013.

Feel At Home allows all Three customers to use their minutes, texts and data while in any of 18 countries, including the US, France and Spain.

Three claims these 18 destinations cover 65 per cent of trips its customers make, saving each customer an average of £360 in roaming charges per year.

Three director of consumer strategy Danny Dixon said: “It’s clear that roaming charges are something that holiday makers are still being caught out by.

“Whilst networks have recognised this and created cheaper bundles and add-ons for people travelling in Europe, Three remains the only network that offers roaming at no extra cost in 18 destinations across the globe, including the US and Australia. We want people to make the most of their holiday without worrying about bill shock on their return.”

According to a survey of 2,000 people commissioned by Three and carried out by money saving expert Miss Moneypenny,  17 per cent of people who use their phone abroad keep in touch with people back home through text messages.

One in 10 British holidaymakers said they switched off their device for the duration of a holiday, but the same amount said they upload photos from their phone during their trip.

Last year, the EC ruled last year to abolish all roaming charges within Europe by June 2017. Figures from Juniper research claim the ruling will cost mobile operators across the globe around $3.64 billion, but save consumers hundreds per year.
