O2 will be exclusively stocking Doro’s latest 5516 feature phone in blue when it goes on sale throughout the UK from late October.
The Swedish manufacturer launched the phone at IFA in Berlin today (September 2). A second ‘graphite’ colour will also available from the operator as well as Carphone Warehouse.
Features on the 3G candy-bar phone include a 2.4-inch screen, physical number pad, 2MP camera with flash and hearing aid compatibility. Users can access the internet for emails and web browsing.
Doro UK & Ireland managing director Chris Millington said: “The device has the basic functions of a feature phone but comes with the added benefit of the internet. We are positively encouraging the user to do more without having to make the move to a fully functioning smartphone.”
Pricing has yet to be confirmed.
Updated Connect & Care app
The manufacturer’s Connect & Care app has been updated. It has been designed to offer assistance to owners using it on any compatible Doro smartphone such as the 8030, Liberto 825, Liberto 820 Mini, 820 Mini Claria, Liberto 820, Liberto 810 and PhoneEasy 745.
A major feature of the new update will allow users to create a ‘circle of care’. Relatives and close friends who have the app on their own Android or iOS device can be added to this ‘circle.’ Those in the group can share pictures, tasks and appointments. They can also offer or request help, monitor phone usage and spot whether the owner has missed a call or set the volume too low. The update will be available from October.
Doro has created a new web portal which guides the user through the set up of their device, allowing them to customise it to their own requirements. Tutorials and assistance on migrating content between phones is given. Family members or close friends can also use the portal themselves to offer remote assistance.
It can track the owner’s phone and make it ring for easier location should it be misplaced. GPS can also be used to track where the user is.
