Manufacturer has “adjusted production schedule” after reports of some replacement devices catching fire

Samsung has reportedly halted production of the Galaxy Note 7 amid claims that replacement devices are still catching fire.

Yonhap News Agency in the manufacturer’s home market of South Korea reported that production has been stopped in line with South Korean, Chinese and American safety regulations.

The halt of has meant that Samsung’s plant in Vietnam that handles the global shipments of their most expensive handset has completely stopped.

A spokesman from Samsung said: “We are temporarily adjusting the Galaxy Note7 production schedule in order to take further steps to ensure quality and safety matters.”

These issues come as another blow to the Note 7 after the vendor recalled and offered to replace over 2.5 million units due to identical problems with the batteries.

There have been eight reports of replacement Note 7s smouldering, smoking or catching fire, six of which have occurred in the US.

The most notable instance forced a SouthWest Airliner to be evacuated. The device in question was smouldering and “making popping noises” moments after the owner had taken their seat on the plane.

US carriers AT&T and T-Mobile have announced that they are no longer selling or replacing devices from the first round of faulty Note7 devices with the new handsets released by Samsung in September.
