Until recently, masts in the area only provided coverage for EE and 999 calls. The upgrade means that people in Hardraw, Appersett, Snaizeholme, Sedbusk, and surrounding communities can now connect to Vodafone, Three, and VMO2.
The Yorkshire Dales has long suffered from poor mobile signal for residents, tourists, and local businesses. The North Yorkshire upgrades form part of a wider push under the SRN programme to expand 4G coverage across all rural areas. Recent improvements have boosted coverage in the North York Moors National Park, including Helmsley, Nawton, Harome, and several nearby villages.

So far, the SRN has delivered 58 rural 4G mast upgrades and has achieved the government’s target of 95 per cent UK coverage from at least one mobile operator. The full rollout will continue through to 2027.
