The contract requires the network to install data monitoring systems across sites in Scotland, Merseyside and North Wales

Vodafone has won a £75 million contract with ScottishPower Energy Networks requiring it to help monitor the utility company’s energy network.

The four-year contract requires the operator to provide specialist support to ScottishPower’s electrical grids. Vodafone will install data monitoring systems across the 30,000 underground power stations and 110,000km of overhead lines used by ScottishPower. These systems will be installed at sites in Central and Southern Scotland, Merseyside and North Wales.

Data collected from the monitoring systems will be used by ScottishPower to see how they can improve their energy infrastructure. ScottishPower currently provides more than 3.5 billion homes and business across the UK with electricity.

Vodafone global enterprise chief executive Jan Geldmacher said: “We welcome the opportunity to work with ScottishPower in support of the company’s plans to meet the long-term needs of its customers.”

ScottishPower Energy Networks CEO Frank Mitchell added: “This is a major contract that is designed to enhance our network operations and ultimately benefit our 3.5 million customers.”
